Co-op Experiences

Our first co-op experience began when my oldest daughter participated in a biology co-op that met once per week. This was for high school age students and all I need to do was pay a fee and drop her off. She learned a lot there and it triggered an area of interest for her. She decided then that she planned to be a nurse and she will complete her nursing degree in 6 months.

The first co-op that I helped organize was centered on a science unit study. We all had younger children and wanted to give them a real exposure to science that nobody seemed to be doing at home. We checked out several homeschool curriculum reviews before deciding on the curriculum we would utilize. Our class met for a few hours once a week and then we had lunch as well as play time. The children loved it, and the parents realized they were also fulfilling their own need for motivation and support.

While our children grew we began to improve, adding in a history class as well as a Five in a Row read aloud time. Some time ago we were lucky to have a skilled artist, who helped draw out the artist in all the children. Guest speakers, who spoke on various topics and provided demonstrations, were a great addition to our co-op.
